Election Funding

The Most Important Point

How do we get private money out of our elections?

How do we do that, when the people who write the laws currently benefit from the system as it is?

There is only one way.

If we want elected officials accountable to the people, if we want voters to choose the representatives - not the representatives to choose the voters, if we want all people to have a voice in party primaries, if we want universal adult suffrage, if we want democracy, and if we want each person to have an equal number of votes - ONE PERSON, ONE VOTE…

The solution is simple: Publicly Funded Elections!

None of the other goals is possible without this, because current representatives like the system the way it is, and more importantly, their wealthy donors like it even more.

Currently, we have congressional representatives who know they don’t have to serve their constituents because gerrymandering means they will never lose their seat, as long as they please their wealthy donors. Senators only do what their billionaire overlords want. A small group of people in Iowa and New Hampshire choose the parties’ candidates, who are then elected to the presidency by lopsided voting in a handful of states. And all of this continues on the state, county, city, and local level as well.

Seems hopeless, right? The people in charge of changing the system are held captive by the people who want the system the way it is. Well, it’s not hopeless. Some representatives hate the system, and most of them HATE the hours they spend on the phone every day raising money. The US has done this before, and other countries are doing it now. It CAN be done.

Write, email, and especially CALL your representatives in congress and in your state legislature, and tell them you want publicly funded elections.
